Paul's creed says Christ was raised on the third day 'in accordance with the Scriptures' — and this text stands behind the phrase, with Jonah's sign beside it. Hosea also supplies Matthew's exodus line: 'Out of Egypt I called my son' — Jesus retracing Israel's steps and succeeding at every station where the first son failed.

Hosea 6:2 was first spoken about a nation being restored — which is precisely the point Jesus makes of it. He is Israel reduced to one man: exiled, tested, faithful, cut off, and raised — so that everyone joined to him rises in his rising. Your resurrection hope is not a private ticket; it is incorporation into the third-day Man.
